BI developer/analyst

We are recruiting for a BI developer/analyst based out of Cardiff or Wrexham.

Job purpose

The role will be responsible for ensuring the co-ordinated development, implementation and management of reporting systems and associated technologies across the Development Bank.

The role will involve capturing business requirements, developing solutions, providing end-user training and managing third party suppliers.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Develop and support the reporting capabilities for the Development Bank using a range of tools including the Microsoft Development stack and the Power BI business analytic tool
  • Manage the full development cycle, from design, development, transition and operational support for systems
  • Work with and co-ordinate the development and support activities of third party suppliers
  • Develop system security, maintenance and governance plans
  • Ensure that appropriate documentation exists for systems
  • Develop and deliver one-to-one or small group end user training
  • Work closely with other members of the ICT team to exchange knowledge
  • Any other task as may be defined by the Senior BI Developer/Head of ICT to meet the operational needs of the department

Knowledge, skills, abilities and experience


  • Demonstrable experience of the management and development of a range of Business Information Systems
  • Thorough working knowledge of the Microsoft Development stack (specifically newer versions of Microsoft SQL server)
  • Prior experience with creating and managing data warehouses
  • Thorough knowledge of developing SSRS/SSIS solutions
  • Strong experience of system performance monitoring and optimising
  • Strong understanding of data modelling and transformations
  • Methodical approach to documentation
  • Understanding of best practices in report design/aesthetics
  • Strong written skills, including the ability to write technical documentation
  • Ability to communicate effectively to a wide range of technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Strong supplier management skills and experience
  • Strong verbal, influencing and interpersonal skills
  • Self-starter who is able to work unsupervised
  • Able to analyse situations or issues, capture current process states, identify future requirements and deliver practical, high quality solutions that meet the needs of stakeholders effectively
  • Ability to prioritise and organise work under pressure and determination to complete tasks to a high standard with measureable success
  • Solid understanding of business processes
  • Have a flexible approach to working hours


  • Degree level educated
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Power BI or equivalent business analytics tools
  • Experience of financial or professional services companies
  • Experience of cloud technologies
  • Experience of managing CMS technologies
  • Experience of working with ERP systems
  • Understanding of change control procedures
