As we start the New Year, it’s good to remember some of the great work and achievements over the last year in the face of challenging times. We’re pleased to say that for many of our technology customers the year ended successfully with nine businesses we work with taking home respected industry awards in 2021.

Energy harvesting company Trameto had an electric end to the year by winning Power System Product of the Year at Electronic Weekly’s Elektra Awards 2021 for its simple, effective and economical power management of micro energy harvesting. Agxio which creates data science and machine learning solutions for biotech, life sciences and agricultural sciences, also had a stomping win at the Welsh Enterprise Awards 2021 taking the Leading Innovator award in the Applied AI & Machine Learning category.

Not one, not two, but three of Development Bank of Wales’ customers were recognised in Tech Nation’s Wales Rising Stars 4.0 Awards. Building supplies online marketplace Go Banana and early years education technology specialists Kinderly both scooped accolades in the Wales regional category. It’s no wonder tech is one of the fastest growing industries in Wales with success stories like these coming through.

Wales is also becoming a beacon of innovation in the Medical Sciences sector with numerous Development Bank of Wales startups rewarded in the MediWales Innovation Awards 2021.

Surgical endoscopy companies Creo Medical and IQ Endoscopes both picked up awards in the Innovation and Start Up categories respectively for their innovations in creating minimally invasive surgical devices and single use flexible endoscopes to tackle cross contamination. Medtech company Bond Digital Health also received the Health and Social Care Research Partnership with Industry Award for its work with Hwyel Dda University Health Board TriTech Institute creating an app for patients to manage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

The top Outstanding Achievement Award went to Biotechnology company BiVictrix for applying a novel approach to develop safer, more effective cancer therapies. Its tech enables more aggressive eradication of specific cancers without causing harmful side-effects, a huge achievement making a real difference.

It’s great to start 2022 with good news like this and we look forward to continuing supporting these businesses as they grow on their journeys. We can’t wait to see what other exciting new breakthroughs they’ll come up with next!
