Assistant Portfolio Support Executive

We are recruiting for an Assistant Portfolio Support Executive based in Cardiff or Wrexham.

Job purpose

Where investments have been identified as “at risk”, the risk & restructuring team’s primary responsibility is the development of an in-depth understanding of and close working relationship with portfolio clients and to maximise the returns on such investments.

Act as the account manager and primary point of contact for a portfolio of underperforming micro loan investments. Attend and conduct meetings with portfolio companies as appropriate. Develop and implement recovery strategies.

Provide administrative support to the Portfolio Support Executives, Portfolio Executives and Senior Portfolio Support executives, as required.

To ensure that the highest level of investment and administrative support for all aspects of the risk, compliance & legal team’s activities are carried out efficiently and professionally.

Main duties and responsibilities

Portfolio Management 

  • Take responsibility for the management of a portfolio of “micro” investments identified as presenting the risk of financial loss to the Development Bank of Wales.
  • Develop appropriate action plans for underperforming and/or “at risk” investments, with the agreement of your line manager/ portfolio manager/ to maximise returns to the development bank, including driving turnaround plans, exit strategies and recovery action, as appropriate.
  • Support the group’s drive to continuously improve investment performance. Identify and report any recurring themes/issues arising from analysis of the circumstances giving rise to underperforming/distressed clients to inform future investment and portfolio management strategies.
  • Maintain regular, proportionate contact with client businesses in the risk & restructuring portfolios to ensure both an up to date understanding of their circumstances, and to foster productive relationships with management. Contact strategies to be tailored to the circumstances of the business in question.
  • Where appropriate, introduce third party support to client businesses, drawing on links with Insolvency Practitioners, and the wider business advisory community.
  • Maximise the collation of accurate KPI data from portfolio businesses in a timely fashion.
  • Ensure compliance with Financial Conduct Authority requirements regarding regulated consumer credit.
  • Produce and maintain accurate documentation for all client companies’ activities.
  • Ensure that all interactions with internal and external bodies and members are conducted in accordance with the highest standards of customer service to ensure timely feedback to appropriate parties.
  • Consideration and awareness of the FCA Consumer Duty at all times to ensure we deliver good outcomes to our customers by acting in good faith, avoiding foreseeable harm and to enable and support our customers to pursue their financial objectives.
  • To ensure our vulnerable customers are treated fairly and that our products and services meet the needs of vulnerable customers in our target market.

Risk Documentation 

  • As an active member of the department, assist closely with the investment restructure and/or recovery process, including the co-ordination and, where appropriate, production of legal and drawdown documentation, and liaison with external consultants.
  • Support team recovery activity and compliance with Consumer Credit Act requirements through the implementation of the Development Bank of Wales’s default procedures, including production of formal demand, default and arrears correspondence, etc.
  • Lead preparation and delivery of monthly CCA Arrears notices 

Administrative Support

  • Manage all investment related documentation and data capture systems including CRM, SharePoint, etc. for the department.
  • Prepare documentation, reports, minutes and agendas in support of team and other meetings.
  • Where necessary, provide support for R&R fund drawdowns.
  • Support with CDD procedures across the team for new and existing portfolio customers.
  • Any other task as may be defined by the portfolio manager/director – risk, compliance & legal to meet the operational needs of the department.

Knowledge, skills, abilities and experience

Essential  

  • Self-motivated with the ability to take a proactive approach and work efficiently with minimal supervision.
  • Comfortable in dealing with time critical client sensitive work.
  • Results focused. The ability to prioritise and organise workload and to work effectively under pressure and meet targets.
  • Drive and determination to complete work to high qualitative standards.
  • An understanding of company law and insolvency law and practice.
  • An understanding of the law relating to finance related activity and practice, including lending governed by the Consumer Credit Act.
  • Good communication, influencing and interpersonal skills. The ability to adapt one’s approach in order to foster productive working relationships with the owners of distressed client businesses.

  • IT/PC literate with ability to use Microsoft Office Packages.
  • Educated to a good standard of general education – GCSE, NVQ Level 2/3 or equivalent standard
