The Development Bank of Wales has been named as one of the UK’s Best Workplaces for 2025 according to Great Place To Work – the global authority on workplace culture.

Considered a gold standard of employer awards, Great Place To Work is assessed by evaluating employee feedback on trust and development, as well as their experiences of innovation, company values and leadership. Only those organisations which achieve high scores after evaluation receive Best Workplaces status. It also allows the Development Bank to move towards achieving a ranking on the coveted UK’s Best Workplaces list.

The Development Bank also took the Great Place to Work for Development Award, which highlights companies which make employee development a key part of their culture, offering employees the chance to better themselves, learn new skills, and progress.

The results for the Development Bank show that 90% of its workforce is proud to work for the company, and 88% believe it is a great place to work - compared to the average figure of 54% of employees at a typical UK-based company.

Other areas where the Development Bank showed its strengths when measured against best-in-class organisations included the company’s ethos of caring and pride.

Giles Thorley, Chief Executive of the Development Bank of Wales, said: "We’re very proud of our inclusion in the UK's Best Workplaces List, which shows how much focus we put on the development and experience of our colleagues.

“Our values as a workplace are based around smart collaboration, entrepreneurial energy, objective empathy and conscious responsibility. While we have always been proud of how we act on those values, it’s great that we’ve had such a strong endorsement from Great Place To Work.”

Benedict Gautrey, Managing Director of Great Place To Work UK said: “Year after year, it's truly inspiring to witness a growing number of organisations earn a spot on our UK’s Best Workplaces™ List. We’ve seen an increase yet again in Trust Index scores which means the bar has been raised and this accreditation is a significant and tremendous accomplishment.

“The UK’s Best Workplaces all excel in creating consistently great experiences for all employees through fostering high levels of trust, pride and camaraderie. These crucial elements collectively contribute to creating cultures where employees feel they can truly be themselves and thrive in a supportive and caring environment.

“Congratulations to the Development Bank of Wales for achieving a place on our 2025 UK’s Best Workplaces™ List."

Headquartered in Wrexham, the Development Bank employs 288 people in Wales.  Since 2017, it has invested £844 million into Welsh SME’s, attracted a further £573 million in co-investment and delivered £367 million through Help to Buy Wales for a total economic impact of £1.78 billion on the Welsh economy.
