The business

Founded by Dr. Paul Taylor in 2011, Laser Wire Solutions is a precision manufacturing company based at the QED Centre in South Wales.

The business designs and builds proprietary laser processing machinery for mission-critical applications in medical, aerospace, automotive, and data centre sectors. All equipment is designed and manufactured in-house, showcasing Welsh engineering excellence on a global stage.

The challenge

Laser Wire Solutions set out to serve the world’s most demanding industries - where precision, reliability, and compliance are non-negotiable. From catheters with wires thinner than human hair to aerospace components and data infrastructure, the company needed:

  • Capital to develop proprietary technology
  • Custom-built machinery for high-spec production
  • Support navigating complex international regulations

Breaking into these regulated global markets required more than funding—it demanded a strategic partner who understood long-term industrial growth.

The solution

The Development Bank of Wales became that partner. Their investment enabled Laser Wire Solutions to:

  • Scale manufacturing operations in South Wales
  • Develop advanced laser processing technologies
  • Build custom machinery tailored to global industry needs

Beyond finance, the Development Bank’s due diligence process helped attract co-investment and build trust with international customers. Through its network, the Development Bank also facilitated strategic connections and provided ongoing support for international market development.

The impact

Laser Wire Solutions has grown into a global operation with nearly 60 employees—most based in South Wales, with team members in the US, Mexico, and Costa Rica. From 2022 to 2024, turnover surged by 67%, reaching over £10 million.
