The £5,000 loan from the Development Bank has made all the difference because it means I’ve now got the working capital to invest in my products. Their support also means that I’ve got the confidence that the business has the potential to take off. I’m very grateful for their help.

Company overview

Maggie Cross is the founder of Maggie Cross Jewellery. Based in her studio in Cardigan, the young entrepreneur makes minimal but fun jewellery using traditional silversmithing techniques and recycled precious metals.

She trained at the School of Jewellery in Birmingham and uses workshops in the famous Jewellery Quarter. Maggie is also a trained acupuncturist.

The purpose of the business

Maggie makes fun jewellery using traditional silversmithing techniques and recycled precious metals. She is also a licensed body piercer.

She has committed to make her brand as sustainable as possible. At the bench, she uses eco-silver sheet and the casting company she works with only uses recycled metals. She has also been able to offer body piercing at her studio in Cardigan. As a young entrepreneur, Maggie reached out to us for funding to help grow her business even further.

Funding

We invested £5,000 to allow Maggie to invest in stock, casting and materials as she prepares to scale-up to meet customer demand. The loan also allowed Maggie to train to become a body piercer, and to create and rent her dream studio space.

I was aiming to make my brand as sustainable as possible by only using recycled and environmentally-friendly materials. Since completing my degree, my time has been spent building up my client base and social media following, and the time is now right to expand my offering.
