Investment Performance Accountant

We are hiring for an Investment Performance Accountant based in Cardiff

Job purpose

The purpose of the role is to assist in developing and improving Management Information and other relevant analyses, in addition to contributing to the delivery of the Finance Teams’ wider objectives.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To be responsible for the production of monthly management information (including the Executive Management Report) and monthly analytical reviews.
  • To identify and present high level points of interest from the numerous reports the Company produces to support interpretation of the monthly results.
  • To be responsible for the production quarterly financial reporting for some Funds.
  • To understand the various datasets held by the Company in respect of its investments and investee companies with reference to interpreting investment performance.
  • To be responsible for the collation, reconciliation and reporting of KPIs to Welsh Government.
  • To take the lead and pull together the Welsh Government budgetary performance information for review by the senior finance team.
  • To work with reporting systems (e.g., Framework, Pancredit, CRM etc.) to review inputs to ensure accuracy and optimise the information available and to input to the Company’s overall strategic data management.
  • To have a good understanding of the models and modelling techniques currently in use in the Company and to update (monthly/quarterly etc) the various DBW funds’ forecast financial models for incorporation into the regular Welsh Government budget and outturn performance reporting.
  • To act as the link between the FP&A Team and the Management Accounts Team to ensure joined up reporting to stakeholders.
  • To deputise for the Forecasting & Planning Accountant as and when necessary.
  • To work with the Finance Team with development and improvement of the accounting and associated systems (including automation of reporting using Power BI and similar tools) in accordance with best practice.
  • To support in the management of the accounting and financial control procedures which safeguard the assets of the company. To proactively identify areas of weakness and work across departments to identify / implement improvements.
  • Co-operation with auditors, advisers and stakeholders as required.
  • Preparation of ad hoc tasks and accounting reports as required.
  • Any other task as may be defined by the Chief Financial Officer to meet the operational needs of the department.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Experience 

Essential 

  • Holder of a recognised UK accountancy qualification with at least 2 years post qualification experience.
  • Ability to prepare integrated financial forecasts.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal & written).
  • IT/PC literate with advanced ability to use Microsoft Office suite of products (including Excel at an advanced level).
  • Working knowledge of Power BI or other data management tools.
  • Strong controls mindset and attention to detail whilst also maintaining a big picture view.
  • Good knowledge of industry and commerce.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Team working skills and an open and enthusiastic approach to work.
  • Up to date knowledge of technical accounting developments.
  • Well organized and ability to work to tight deadlines with multiple stakeholders.

Desirable 

  • Ability to communicate through the medium of Welsh.
  • Awareness of the Development Bank of Wales Group.
  • Familiar with the use of Sage 200 or other similar accounting packages
  • Familiar with portfolio management systems (e.g. Pancredit, Framework or similar).
