Communications and Brand Strategy Manager

Job purpose

The Communications and Brand Strategy Manager is responsible for developing, planning and managing the Group’s messaging led integrated communications and public relations strategy to budget and in support of the corporate and annual operational plans.

Working closely with the Marketing and Communications Director, you will lead and develop a communications team, building effective relationships internally and externally to communicate the Group’s strategy and impact.

You will also be the Group’s brand owner and lead the development of the brand identity.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the Group’s communications strategy to achieve strategic aims and build brand recognition.
  • Lead the development and implementation of the Group’s brands/visual identities, helping to build a strong, professional brand family and improving brand recognition with all target audiences.
  • Develop the group messaging framework and work across the wider team to ensure communication across all channels including collateral, website, digital and campaign is led by strong messaging.
  • Manage the programme of media and press activity including deal releases, corporate releases, speaking engagements and interviews.
  • Develop effective strategic relationships with teams and external stakeholders to maximise the impact of the Group’s communications and develop the brand.
  • Manage the internal communication programme.
  • Manage the delivery of the Group’s corporate publications, including our annual report, corporate and operational plan and campaigns for Economic Intelligence Wales.
  • Manage external suppliers to deliver PR activity to achieve communications objectives.
  • Produce regular reporting to measure the team’s impact and output.
  • Support the Marketing and Communications Director to produce and manage the group crisis communications plan.
  • Deputise for and undertake any other task defined by the Marketing and Communications Director to meet the department’s operational needs.

Knowledge, skills, abilities and experience

Essential 

  • Recognised communications qualification (preferably CIPR diploma or equivalent) or track record of working in a senior communications role.
  • Demonstrable experience of developing and implementing messaging led communications.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to influence at a senior level.
  • Experience of developing strong teams.
  • Knowledge and experience of strategic brand development and implementation.
  • Experience of working in a corporate environment and good understanding of appropriate legal and regulatory frameworks e.g. the FCA, GDPR, corporate governance.
  • Experience of managing a budget.
  • Excellent organisation and project management experience.

Desirable 

  • Proven capability and demonstrable experience in a similar role, preferably in the financial services sector.
  • A good understanding of the Development Bank of Wales’ role in the Welsh economy, the Welsh economy, industry and commerce as well as SMEs’ investment needs.
  • Experience of using different IT applications/packages, including MS Office applications, CRM and content management systems.
  • Full driving licence.
  • Welsh speaker.
